So glad to be a part of your fourm.
I researched up and down for 3 years on a Sprinter and converting it. But in the end there were 6 problems with the Sprinter.
1) It is a diesel and if you travel outside of the U.S it is hard to get Ultra Low Sulfur fuel.
2) There are very few Sprinter mechanics and when you find one, they are $200 per hour.
(there are 3x the Transit mechanics and they do not charge $200 per hour. You can find them for $40p/h)
3) I do not like how the walls of the Sprinter pinch in, which makes you feel more closed in. (The Transit has squarer walls and easier to frame out)
4) The Sprinter is about 6' - 3" height inside while the Transit is 6'-7" inside height.
5) The Transit is about 2" wider inside.
6) The Transit costs less for a 2x4, even though I want a 4x4. (But the Sprinter is not a true 4x4 I was told by Quigley, Cost: $13,000.
Downsides to the Transit:
A) Factory 4x4 not available
B) it is 10" shorter inside (so less space to build) but the Transit width I think will make up for it being shorter
We all have that dream layout, but I will update you along the way with videos and pictures of what I am doing in hopes that it will save some of you researching time, money and maybe you will get some helpful ideas. I hope to have mine completed in 2 months.
It will carry myself, girlfriend and 3 dogs.
1. Queen bed that will go East to West with metal window flare/extensions
2. Couch to Double bed conversion
3. 60 gallons of fresh water
4. Shower/toilet
5. Sink/kitchen
6. Slide out chest fridge/freezer
7. YAMAHA EF2000ISV2 Portable RV Generator to run the portable 5,000 BTU a/c
and under the bed will fit the inflatable SeaEagle 14' boat:
