My Quigley 4X4 van was delivered!

I was pretty apprehensive about ordering a Quigley 4X4 Transit van given the long delays reported by others. Fortunately, my order went smoothly and my van was delivered just over 3 months after it was built at Ford. Here is a breakdown of the waiting periods involved:

Rail transfer from Ford to Quigley: 2 weeks
Hold at Quigley: 4 weeks
Production at Quigley: 2 weeks
Delivery (by flatbed truck) to dealer: 5 weeks
Pre-delivery inspection and detailing: 1.5 days

The final delivery can probably be streamlined by urging your dealer to make payment immediately following completion of the van and also by making sure transportation is arranged in advance.

With Continental Vancontact Winter tires mounted, I felt very secure traveling over an icy 7200-foot pass on the way home from the dealer. I haven't had the need to use the four-wheel drive yet, but expect it will prove its worth in the Northern Sierra Nevada while traveling snow-covered roads this winter and dirt access roads to remote trailheads next summer. The primary use for my van will be as a dog and recreational gear hauler as well as a basic camper. Overall, I am amazed at how easy, comfortable and fun the van is to drive and am beyond happy with the purchase!

It's a beauty would love to see some more angles. Time seems to be slowing down for me (mid-March drop off) as the anticipation grows.

Thanks. I hate to stoop to the level of decals but how many did they put on there, rear too? I notice the Europe factory 4x4's have a nice metal "4x4" right under the 150/250/250 boiler plate. I think I only want the one on the rear side quarters not sure I am too fond of that front one (guess I'd have to be there). I have a nasty decal on my rear door from the dealer to take off with a heat gun.

5 decals in all; 2 on each side, 1 on the back. Very subtle :-) I'm keeping them all so that I don't get stopped at chain control checkpoints (generally no chain requirement with 4WD AND snow tires).

It's easy to remove at least the big decals near the rear on each side.

My van came with the Continental 4 seasons. I ordered the winter tires online (Tirerack; 235/65/R16) and had the dealership mount them before I drove off the lot. We are in the midst of a series of early winter storms, so I didn't want to take any chances with a brand new vehicle (there is a limit to what 4WD can deliver in terms of traction and safety without the right tires).

I should probably give a shout-out to my salesman at Capital Ford in Carson City, Nevada. Tim Smith, the fleet manager, processed my order with 100% accuracy. Despite this being his first Transit/Quigley order he navigated the system pretty efficiently. Also, the dealership did an admirable job of preparing the van prior to delivery: they spent a full day inspecting the 4WD and other systems and half a day detailing the vehicle (even the engine!). Getting a van that is fully operational and in pristine condition is a pretty amazing feeling. Kudos to Capital Ford.
