Attention - Password and Security Update

Hello all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,

Helena

Exclamation Issues

Hi there
I am needing to change my email and wanted to change my password as well.. the site won't let me do either of these, singularly nor collectively. I enter my current PW.... but it won't accept any changes.

Hey there

You can change both together, or separately. If changing the email separately, you'll need to enter your current password in all three of the password fields. It's a quirk of the vB software.

When you tried to change your password, are you certain you met all the requirements? It won't allow you to move forward if you don't. All the Red X's need to be blue checkmarks. Then the Save Changes button will activate.

If you did all that and you're still having trouble, PM us with what you want changed. We'll get you set up and investigate what the issue is that is preventing you from doing it yourself.

Thanks.

Frustrating... took another 15 minutes.. it would not allow both to change at the same time, even with all fields filled in.... but alas it spun and spun and accepted the new password...

IDK if it helped but I could not get it to accept the email no matter what...so I signed out and back in and tried a few more times and finally got it.

all done.

Thank you for implementing these changes.
I request that you support your stronger IAM processes by implementing SSL as the default security protocol for HTTP communications. Even better would be making SSL mandatory.
My corporate background includes 17 years as an Global Enterprise Security Architect in the financial investment and banking world. All my work at a minimum met OCC, SEC, and individual state legal requirements in addition to the various legal data security requirements in over a dozen countries we operated in. Prior to that I managed global directory services. My business acumen and security work stretches back into '70's & '80's where I use to found/sell business with > 12mm revenues.

Keep up the excellent work. -Bill

Hey there

Tech has been working over the last year on getting SSL/HTTPS deployed across out entire network. It's in the final stages now and the aim is to have it live over the next couple of months.

Thanks!

Question

You are not the only V bulletin type forum board that is doing the same thing... was there a security notice that went out?
