Sprinter tranny vs. Transit tranny

If the Transit tranny lasts half as long as my Sprinter tranny I will be happy.

My 04 Sprinter Tranny finally went @ 581,000 miles, cost $2,500.00 for a new one

Wow, that's a pretty good service life. If it makes you feel any better, my buddy just spent about $4k on a new tranny in his AWD Sienna minivan.
How long did the engine go for?

original powertrain, Reason is I haul light weight 10% of my freight is 2,000 Lbs or more, plus I stick to the maintance schedule. As far as the motor goes shows no sighns of slowing down, no blue smoke and burns 1 Quart of oil for every 10,000 miles, speaking of oil I only run Mobil 1 Synthetic, which is another reason why she is running so well, also still average 23 MPG

Hmm... $2500, eh?

Its gonna cost me almost that much for a full clutch job on my car, '99 Audi A4 Avant.

But then, it has nearly 190k on the factory clutch, with no signs of going out anytime soon.

Garage
don't see the 6R80 going that long

I predict 200-225K tops for this transmission. It shifts clutch-to-clutch AFAIK, with the one-way clutch only from 1-2 and 2-1. These type of synchronous shifts get sloppy after a while, and it's just a consequence of age. Fortunately the transmission should have been reworked at this point to avoid some of the issues they had in the Explorer/F150

I have to agree, the longevity of the 316 CDI is legendary. Mine is only at 180k miles, but uses virtually no oil (kendall gt-1 synthetic) and runs like new. I'd love to drop this engine and NAG-1 trans into an old C-10 pick up.
