second transit, more water issues

Just picked up a 2016 T250 with dual sliding doors (later production I think?) and after driving cross country last week to get home (Medina NY to Portland Or) I figured I'd better check the air box (it crapped out and almost stalled once on the way back) Sure enough, wet moldy filter (and a rodent had chewed the foam off the bottom of the filter) There are signs on the top of the air box where water has been sitting, but the dealer is telling me that because the moisture on the filter is on the front rather than the rear of the filter where they have seen it before that Ford may not cover the air filter replacement.
This follows my 2015 which leaked water into the cab from the passenger side under the windshield. I brought this to the dealers attention while the vehicle was under warranty. At the time I had a cracked windshield and the issue was dismissed without even being looked at. I replaced the windshield and the water continued to run into the cab on moderate to heavy rains, rotted the felt under the vinyl and actually filled the compartment in the passenger step well..by now the vehicle was out of warranty... no recourse from the dealer.

both vans are mid roof 148wb diesel.

Tomorrow morning I'll be picking up the van and paying the 20.00 for the air filter and proceed to bitch to whoever will listen. These things happen and service writers can either make this scenario much less painful or incredibly infuriating

I bought the Walmart plastic dishpan and cut it in half. Slips right on and off and keeps the water away from the back of the airbox, which is where it seeps in on mine.

I'd put a TRUMP bumper sticker on it, but I'm quite certain it would be vandalized.

I had the Ford sponsored repair done several months ago. Finally had measurable rainfall last week. Hesitantly, I checked the air filter, and it was wet, with noticeable water in the air box. So, back to Walmart, bought the Sterilite dish pan and reinstalled the 'turd', since the Ford dealership that performed the 'Ford Fix', discarded my previously installed barrier.

I still think that Ford should provide a redesigned air box as the proper fix for this design fiasco.

Yes, it's a shame Fords "fix" doesn't fix it.

Maybe Ford should contract with Sterilite for some custom TURD's. Make them black with Motorcraft embossed in them. And already cut to fit the Transit.

It's obvious, but best to check it after a heavy rain, before you drive the van since air flow will dry the filter.

I got it partway open but had to seal it back up to go fetch the kids. As I was wiggling the cover, the intake hose attached at the engine side CAME RIGHT OFF! Turns out it wasn't even tightened on the intake, just kind of shoved on. This is a NEW van, no one has ever messed with the intake. After seeing the quality construction and assembly of the body panels, and now this, I can imagine other assembly problems; this will probably be the last Ford product I buy. All my prejudices of UAW assembly plants have turned out to be justified. Maybe my standards are artificially high because I drove Toyota pickups and Sprinter for the last 30 years. I think the Hyundai full size van will be available in the USA soon...

Also, there were what looked like dried dirty water stains inside the intake hose on both ends. I'll remove the rest of it and check the filter tomorrow because I have more chauffeur duties tonight.
