just hit 40k miles

I'm a professional siding, window, door, etc installer. I purchased 2015 Ford transit 250 for my business, to get to work and haul my 5 by 10 trailer I use for picking up windows. My 1st mistake was installing a roof rack that is mounted directly to mounting points. 2 on one side and 2 on the other. after I loaded my pumpjacks and poles on it and drove for couple days, the rafters that support the roof rack got completely ripped out of their welds!!!!! I had to put piecesome of wood between the rafters and the cargo bins to support them!!! other major thing is that gas door. the hinges broke when I accidentally leaned against the fuel door when I was parked in a tight spot and it was inconvenient to get inside. they cannot be repaired, at least in any relatively easy way. only good thing is fuel economy. in snow it's impossible to drive. power is not that good (3.7 liter, 280 horsepower) I'd say it's more like 180 horsepower. I guess someone made a lot of money designingredients that fuel door. that engineer is just idiot I'd say. I hope this van holds much better mechanically.

So, you DID mount to the prescribed load-bearing pads? You used 2 per side, when there were 3 or 4 per side available (depending on wheelbase). Do you think you overloaded the pads (rated for 70 pounds each, as I recall)?

That would be a serious bummer.

almost forgot. the battery is just a joke. if you open and close doors repeatedly the battery will die from cargo area lights and the van won't start at the end of the day. its so much worse in cold weather. I bought jump start device not to be stuck with this piece of garbage that won't start at the end of the day. I think they should've designed a switch that would allow you to turn the light it the cargo area off when you don't need them. bad, bad engineering!! I imagine how much those designers/engineers were paid!!! for this faulty design!!!

I didn't mount then myself. The guy who sold it to me mounted it(Approved Ladder, Philly, PA) I agree its the bad cheap roof rack that gets mounted to ONLY 2 pads on each side. It's Cargo Master or something similar as I recall. Yes I think i overloaded it. I guess I just didn't think about how it's mounted since there was no problem on my old van that used rail mounting. I'd blame roof rack designers for damage because the guy who mounted it told me you can put any weight on it (reasonable). 4 pump jacks are like 100 150 lbs. not that unreasonable.

It might help to replace the bulbs with LED bulbs; they are super cheap on Amazon. Also, disconnecting the plug to the sliding door (in the B-pillar) causes the lights to go off much sooner, like in 60 sec, when it's open. Have not tried that on the back doors yet. I'm installing a camper interior so I'm also opening and closing the doors all the time and those lights were worrying me.

Yeah, my battery nearly died because of this as well. I pulled the cargo lights out and unplugged them. When I have time, I'll rig up a switch.

Why Ford didn't allow for this is a big mystery to me. Also, I've seen a few Transits around here with busted fuel doors, too. I've opened it by accident a couple times with my leg...having it break would suck so I'm quite mindful of it. Aside from that the van is awesome.

'16 T150-148" MR-Caribou-3.5EB-3.73LS-Premium Pkg-Leather-Side and back glass-Alloys-Block heater-Short power heat + sig-Reverse sensors. Here comes the painter with the real nice van...
Ordered 10/26
Built 12/23...in transit two days later
ETA Jan 13-19
Laid before my feet on Jan 14
I'd put a TRUMP bumper sticker on it, but I'm quite certain it would be vandalized.

I would say the takeaway from this is the dual AGM setup should be at the top of everyone's list when transit shopping. I can run tool battery chargers on it all day with no issues. Once I left my laptop charger on it overnight and it started right up in the AM like nothing happened.

2015 LED's were an option. Read somewhere that 2016 had them standard.
