The Hum, Thrum or Throb
I own a 2016 mid roof 350 Transit Wagon, 3.7L engine 3.73 limited
slip rear axle, XLT trim long 184 wheelbase. Purchased in mid July
after about 100 or 200 Kms or 55 or 125 miles, I noticed that there
was a low level noise, that throbbed when I was around 50 MPH or
80 KMS, most noticable at 75Kms. , especially when I am slowing down
and the engine is at 1500 RPM. so far the Ford dealership has replaced
steady bearings, universal joints, and the drive shaft, as well as
put new gears in the rear end. The wheels have been rotated, and
checked for defects, and still this annoying noise exists.
The interior of this 50 thousand dollar vehicle is also pretty cheap.
When I owned a mini van, the seats folded ahead and were
versatile, the transit is basically functional. There is no lock on
the glove compartment, and the windows of tinted glass, let in the
heat from the sun. If I were to get another van I sould get the privacy
glass, and the SYNC 3 system just to have the larger backup camera
display. I am happy with the engine even though it is not as peppy as the
3.5L eco boast, but it tows a trailer okay, and does the 120 to 130KPH
or 80MPH in the USA highways okay.
I just wished I had a van without the throb that I hear every day.
