Americas Best Selling Commercial Van

In November at least, it took six months for the Transit to reach supremacy of the American commercial market.

Why did it take so long when the Transit is legitimately a superior product? Well market forces would be the prime culprit. Ford has only JUST achieved a steady flow of supply to the dealers.

It wasn't just supply that was suppressing Transit sales, existing alongside the former best selling E-series was no easy task. With production ceasing and supply becoming exhausted E series sales in November were down 59% YoY.

Transit isn't just under pressure from its stable mate, the now discontinued Express/Savana 1500 twins were sales leaders over the last 4 months, however saw its volume taper off 23% from October to November 2014.

Regardless the Transit is no Econoline, yet...

I have yet to see a short roof Transit in inventory at any of 5 dealers near me. That is what i have on order. Can not really compare a tall roof transit with a short roof Econoline. I bet there is a lot of orders for the short roof. I have been waiting since June for mine.

The Ford dealer near us still has 5 E series in stock. They have 5 identical Transits sitting right next to them. This is an active fleet competing dealer that usually gets the local business.
They have yet to sell a Transit....

What is the roof height of those 5 "identical" Transits? I own a 2000 E series. Besides the conversion vans I have never seen a tall roof E series. Maybe Ford makes them and I am unaware that they exist. But it sounds like to me the short roof Econolines are selling before the tall roof Transits. And I bet the prices are not "identical".

Should have worded a bit different. The Transits are identical white mid roof cargoes. They are not identical in roof height to the 5 E series. The E series are all full window wagons, standard E series roof height of course....

I think it's probably because it's new and people just aren't familiar with it, E has been around forever, they feel 'right at home' with it.

The first van I looked inside of was a standard, cargo, low roof shorty. I drive by my dealer daily and that van has not moved in 5 weeks. The taller vans are moving as I can see them disappearing.
