Thanx, Dave found the doc and the codes. I guess those codes in effect actually specify the top level vehicle (length, height, and doors). Odd that's not rolled into the build your own site. Looks like cost will be TBD...

BTW, been reading your DIY posts in the Sprinter forum. Tip-o-my hat and big thanks for sharing your work - inspiring and impressive!

I had a lot of help from previous posters so felt it only right to share what I did. If I buy a Transit I have a list of 96 things to change/improve. Already have 18 full size CAD drawings done about as far as I can go until I get a few more measurements. Got most of the required measurements from Ford Transit display models shown at LA Auto show.

This is great information (if you're in the market for a European Transit).

Those were AWD models. We have rear wheel drive only, the worst of all options when it comes to the cold wet stuff.

I am not to sure about the AWD comment? The van is only built in the US, it is to be exported to world. The Transit custom (smaller euro model) which is made in Turkey is front wheel, rear wheel and all wheel drive models.
I am very interested in (1) was it a diesel and (2) how would you make it AWD given the way the vehicle drive line is packaged.
The van may have future capabilty for it?, but 4WD and AWD don't fishtail or drift like I see.
Will have to ask the Ford guys this about the video (was a ford video)
Is the new Sprinter in the video AWD? are any Sprinters AWD?

Use General Cadd 2D software. I have most measurements for a 148" WB vehicle. I know the dimensions up to the 51" where the body starts to taper up to the roof. Do not know roof dimensions. Did measure medium roof height to be 71 1/2" from top of steel floor to bottom of roof rib.
I also missed one critical dimension on the floor length. As soon as I can get access to an empty van I will post the dimensions.

Guess they shipped a preproduction model over for testing? I just assumed it was a euro transit since that's where the testing took place. I've seen others saying the same thing. I stand corrected?

As for the 4x4 option - I'm over it Learn to drive it and you'd be amazed where that RWD can get you. In my Sprinter, I've never thought I could get through something and failed. That isn't to say I haven't turned back when encountering very hairy situations, but I've got through some rough stuff. Only thing that's swallowed the van up on multiple occasions is deep sand, and a 4x4 van wouldn't have done a whole lot better in that stuff.

I'll take the better fuel economy and less driveline parts to maintain with 4x2
