Closing Right Rear Door From Inside

Months ago we talked about how there was no handle, but there is absolutely NOTHING to grab on to and pull it shut. Aside from installing a handle, anyone here figured out a way do it?

I first used the door lock, but didn't trust that I wouldn't quickly break it. So I actually took a paracord bracelet I had made one night when I was bored and threaded it through 2 of the existing slots at the top of the door. Instant door handle.

How about a loop of thick leather/vinyl/etc attached with a single screw and fender washer to the inside door panel, secured with a lock washer and nut on the other side of the panel.

Material could be 1 1/2" wide by 20" long. When folded back and attached it would make a 9" loop. Kind of like the handholds subways and busses have hanging from the ceiling for those standing.

Just thinking out loud...

Longboard,

How about a leather loop affixed to door with velcro?

I tried the lock too but it seemed much too flimsy.
I'll probably just rig something simple.
Can't believe Ford included a rear step but no grab handle, and no handle to close from inside.

On the Sprinter I added a 80/20 handle on the bottom back edge of the overhead cabinets.

There is also a tapped hole in the door frame about the correct height. Bolt a piece of 1/4" x 1 1/2" aluminum flatbar to that tapped hole. Flatbar would have one center hole and two tapped holes for the 80/20 handle # 2061. Space out bolts or cut bolts so they do not hit the door frame.

Adding a door handle should be a simple addition. There are round holes in door frame near the joint between the two doors at bottom of rear windows. They are about 4 5/8" center to center and are the right diameter for 1/4-20NC pre-bulbed inserts. Add threads to those holes. 80/20 sells a black molded door handle part # 2061 that has a center to center distance of 4.6". Only problem is handle is designed for 5/16" bolts. Should be possible to use a 1/4" bolt with flat washer.

Why not an E-Series pull handles a real door lock & power lock switch!

Seems simple enough to me. I love my Transit, just can't believe they bothered with the finer points like hidden compartment at each front door, but skipped the basics like allowing a driver to close the rear door from inside.

No photo but it's easy and intuitive. Basic latch, one or two fingers.
