Are 245/75-16 tires out of the question?

The E250 work trucks I drive are equipped with 245/75-16 tires.

The T350 wagon I have on order is coming with tiny 235/65-16 tires. Will I be able to upgrade to 245/75-16 without trouble or is it going to require mods to keep the tires from rubbing etc.

Thank you.

245/75/r16 will fit no rubbing, but will throw your speed off by 6 mph (70mph on gps = 63mph actual) and lower rpm so you lose torque,, ford cannot change the system to match trans to tires .. they disabled that option

I still fail to understand how tires that barely fit without rubbing and throw off the speedo are an "upgrade". Maybe I'm biased from my neighbor's putting 26" rims on their Ford Fiestas and stuff, but I'm surly.

Many of us have switched to larger tires, mine are 245/75R16.
Click here for a long thread with tons of information on changing tire size.

I do burnouts with my large tires in front of Surly Bill's house.

But not on the lawn, he told me to stay off it.

There is another thread where someone posted a link to a company that is selling an OBDII reflash unit with custom tunes. They can apparently change the tire size in the programming. It sounds like that is the only way to correct for larger tires as the vehicle reads speed off of the wheel sensors, not transmission.

I put 225/75R16 on my T150 MR. Most people say the 245/75 will fit which is true, just watch the front with wheels turned to full right or left with a bumpy road. Speedometer will be off, mine is about 5 MPH off at 60 (you are going faster that what is indicated and going further than the odometer shows) and with the EB engine there is no problem with any power loss. At 70 MPH engine is turning about 1850 rpm. Just love my Transit.

Well mine (16" wheels w/245/75r16BFG's) rub up front at a certain turn angle ever so slightly on the lower tip of the inside front cowling (but I have the Quigley conversion's 2" lift). I can hear it growling at me when I am backing up and turning simultaneously. Plan to get under there with a heat gun, moto tool, or something when I get it into the shop.
