#1 Custom Conversion Feature IYHO?

Ok, getting everything down so when the van comes it doesn't just sit around and I never convert anything, but...
The more I read the forums the more this cascades into more and I need to KISS it..
So,
QUESTION: In hindsight, What is the #1 , absolute, must have, best IYHO conversion item you added/modified/spent $$$ on to do?
[my theory possibly , even though I said just one, I think should be larger custom gas tank for generator possibly to alleviate going for gas frequently, and larger tires for smoother ride)]

the electric cooler/refrigerator, which leads to a whole host of expensive electrical accessories , although some have reported that it runs off of the transit dual battery system just fine.
$800 for a Norcold 3 cubic foot, 12 volt dc, 2.5 amp, refrigerator.

(i was thinking about that just the other day, i should have just kept it simple and gone with little more then a 1980s campervan conversion, the refrigerator is the one thing i use on every trip. the full kitchen takes up a lot of space which could be used for hauling other things when not camping.)

Getting the van ready for the conversion is probably # 1. So many of us jump right into the conversion and then wish we had done things that are then difficult.

1. Unless you have the HD version get the AirLift 5000 suspension system and I highly recommend getting the 70000 wireless remote. This will greatly improve stability and allow you to maintain proper ride height.
2. Drop the gas tank and add the second fuel port with a shut-off valve so it's available should you ever decide to use it.
3. Enhance the camera system. At a minimum, add one at the third tail light and one above the slider door.
4. Add a battery tender for the vehicle battery(s).
5. Solar wiring to the roof.
6. Test, secure and protect all wiring that is inside the van's walls.

As I sit here I realize that there are a lot more items on this list but most will be specific to your build.

Other than that my most loved items are my 3.1 cu ft refrigerator/freezer and my Porta Potti.

Use "SO" cords instead of conduit and loose wires. Keep wiring out of the walls by installing behind or inside the cabinets.

Come on, guys -- without a vent fan, you've got nothing.

Vent fan and insulation .... at least that's my plan for the first two weeks. Then the van is livable while I get to know it better and think through the conversion, electrical, etc and put down a lot of blue tape.

And bug screens for the front windows. That's easy -- over the years I've made 'em using fiberglass window screening for E-series vans, a minivan and a 4Runner in two styles: "pillowcase" and held on by magnets.

After all, a sewing machine is a power tool!

Based on our experience with hundreds of DIY and professional builds; vent fans, noise reduction and thermal insulation are first on the list. Then an electrical system for making coffee.

The first two are easy. Thinsulate(TM) for noise and comfort, Maxfan Deluxe with our adapter. Electrical system gets more involved with batteries and integrating the 3 charge sources: vehicle, solar and shore power. We often offer assistance there as well.

Audio (speaker + sub) upgrades appear to be popular too.
