I know a lot of threads have been put out there. I just bought mine 6 most ago and was concerned like everyone about water getting into the filter. Mine seems pretty dry and clean. Live in CA, we had some good amount of rain this winter.
Just and FYI to date

Hey Smokster, as long as I got you here, how is that hood wrap of yours holding up? Would love to see some more photos of it sometime. I was doing some browsing on youtube and saw an entire Adventure van covered in that stuff.

wrap was originally invented for airplane use because the airlines had to repaint there planes every 2 years with expensive 400 dollar a gallon Imron paint, (the deicing fluid is hard on paint) the entire plane is wrapped!
once about 10 years ago i had the remove the wrap from 2 casino tour buses, everything was wrapped, including the side windows in this mesh like wrap, on the bus that had wrap less then 5 years old the wrap came off easy in big sheets, on the other bus the wrap was 8 years old and the wrap had bubbles and cracks in it and peeled off in small pieces. (not fun!) more modern wrap may last longer, i do not know?
the mesh like window wrap was cool: on the outside from a distance it looked like the windows had been painted over, (with the mesh window wrap you could make a transit wagon look like a cargo van with no rear windows!) from the inside you can clearly see through the mesh outside!
early on i had thought about wrapping my rear windows too, and i may still do it yet, with my limo tint and window mesh wrap i could have the ultimate in privacy glass!

My very first 4wd vehicle was a Bronco II, and I could never get over what a PITA that rear swing mounted spare tire was. Granted the Aluminess rear thing-a-ma-jig is aluminum but mine turned into a rusty hot mess and I absolutely hated having to swing it out of the way every time I wanted to stow or un-stow something. Add to that on the Transit it eliminates the cool feature of swinging the rear doors all the way open to the magnetic catches.

Every time I see Aluminess featuring their rear bumper and all it's baggage on instagram (and it is almost daily) I think of what I went through with that leased Bronco II. Maybe those using theirs as a camper conversion/adventure van don't have to use the rear doors as much as I do.

I used sign vinyl on the hood of my Sprinter because of all the rock chips. It's the same exact material used for "wraps". When I was installing and had to reposition it, it took with it huge pieces of the clearcoat! I left it on for a while, then replaced it with Duplicolor bedliner spray, which worked perfectly. I haven't tried Plastidip.

If you look in the wiper tray at each side you'll find a drain with a tube that dumps water out under the vehicle. Keep those clean and you shouldnt have any water in your filter. It only takes one small leaf to plug them up so yes, it's a poor design.
