Has anyone found good places to bolt in tie-down hooks in a passenger wagon? I know many folks use the seat tracks for anchoring motorcycles, but I'd like to secure a 5-gal water jug on top of the blower motor and some other stuff on the walls. Then maybe a couple bicycle fork mounts to the floor. Think it would be ok to drill L-Track into the carpet sub-floor?
If you want something super cheap and simple - your wheel wells have threaded bolt holes in the top middle mount point. You can just thread in the stock van d ring.
I'm also in the process of mounting 80/20 to the black part of the rear [not the gray as above] I'm doing that for cabinetry, but the same concept would work with L-Track or something similar. Plusnuts are your friend. http://faroutride.com/plusnut/
I used L Track with the flange so my panels tuck under that flange for a clean edge. Buy the L track that is not pre-drilled so you can layout your holes to match the existing van wall hole pattern. Use 1/4 20 plus nuts in the (e) holes. Drill your L track with 5/16 bit, use cutting fluid to get more life out of drill bits. Be sure to ping and pre-punch your drill location on the L - Track. Real easy to get off just a bit and then the bolt head conflicts with the track. In those cases I used Socket head 1/4 20 bolts so the bolt head could fit in the track.
I used 1/2-inch exterior plywood backing to create a thermal break and to give an anchor for panels to screw to. Glued 1/16-inch thick rubber to back of the plywood to help with squeaks and so the ply doesn't lay against metal. Fear was it would have a moisture issue there so the rubber pads keep the ply offset from wall 1/16 inch.
I had to drill a few new 5/16 dia. holes in the van wall to have an anchor at the end of the L-track
Photos attached show bare wall, use the upper row of holes immediately below the window portals.
I originally tried using the lower hole pattern to utilize the (e) M10 holes. I tested that with a 4-ft L track before buying the remaining 8-ft tracks. The lower hole pattern row conflicts with the pillar support in the van. If you use the upper row the L-track can run continuous the entire length of the cargo area.
