Quigley and Quadvan Owners - question

Do you run a larger than stock tire and if so is your speedometer corrected for the larger tire?

No one on this forum has reported being able to change the speedometer yet.

Dealer says they can't do it anymore.

Most who have bigger tires just live with the incorrect speedometer.

Why is the speedometer error a problem? Once you know the percentage it is off then it is easy to correct the speed in your mind.

Hi,

After the correction factor is calculated, you could put a 3x5 paper card near dash with common speeds,

45 mph reads xx
55 mph reads yy
65 mph reads SS
70 mph reads as

Also, for around own

25 mph reads aa
35 mph reads bb

from my truck driving days of driving with a broken speedometer cable, 13 forward gears equaled 10 mph per gear, (no speed limiter on the governor) i never got a ticket in 3 years of driving it! i guess that does not really apply to an auto transmission, but it was easy to calculate in your mind like the percentage your speedo is off in the transit.

I have changed the final drive ratio on many motorcycles and enjoy doing the math as I go down the road to figure how fast I am really going. It keeps my brain busy. However, I can see why you would want your van to read correctly.

With modern rigs they depend heavily on wheel speed for things like abs and traction control. Others have mentioned shift points in the transmission and possible damage with an incorrect speedo reading. I am not an engineer but this all makes sense to me. Will your abs and TC still work? Sure. Will it work as well as with a 27" tire? I doubt it. Same for the transmission. It needs accurate info to work.

At some point the aftermarket will provide a way to fix this I bet. VC claims a factory reflash was available, I am surprised that they would offer that up if it was not true.
