New 2017 Transit - Ready for action

Just returned home with my new Transit. Before I left to pick it up I read a thread on what to inspect before I drove it home. Props to who reminded to check the air cleaner.

Everything I checked out was good. The slider door was smooth and closed easily, all the doors had even seams, etc.

The air cleaner cover had a plastic trough above it to divert water but the top lid still fits inside the lower portion instead of overlapping it. I could see water in the gap so I wanted to get the cover off. It looked pretty cumbersome to me to do under the circumstance so I asked the salesperson I was dealing with if he could have someone from the svc dpt come and take it off for me. Their head guy, a very nice fellow, soon appeared and he struggled with it a bit, noticing Ford has apparently attached a sensor of some kind to the top of the intake tube that was new to him. It made it more awkward than usual he said to get the top off but he struggled with it.

Soon he headed off with the damp air cleaner and brought back and installed a fresh dry one.

End of story

"On your mark..."

Yesterday drove about 300 miles to pick up LiFePo battery and accessories.

65 mph max -- Lie-O-meter claims 18.7 mpg.

Nicely quiet in town but at freeway speed yikes - bolstered incentive to get with the sound insulating.

Mine was very loud at speed when I test drove it. Turns out someone had pumped the front tires up to 70psi . Even with normal tire pressure it was a bit loud. Now, with the Thinsulate and the floor installed, we think it's actually a little quieter than our 2014 Subaru Outback.

That sensor has been there on all 3 years of the Transit- must not know much about them-

Oh wait he works for a dealer- case solved.....>:D

Congrats on the new van!

Get Set...

This was the first big step. Next up, the floor.

* - I should add, I was going to install the windows myself but after talking with George at Motion Windows I concluded for $125 per window installation by a master would be money well spent.

You are absolutely correct. I picked up my van in KC (which looks like your vans twin - I have chrome) and then drove 1900 miles back to CA. OMG I cannot begin to describe the **** noise I had to endure for 30 hours. The van is one big crappy speaker. The highway would go from garbage to good and every tiny change in texture made a huge change in noise. The smallest rock kicked up going 70mph sounds like a firecracker going off behind your head. So my first priority after I got home was sound and thermal insulation. It is still an ongoing process but every change makes a big improvement to sound. I expect when I am done it will be as quiet as a good car.
