Also, many people held out for the Transit release, and got one when they were available. Those people are not buying vans, they already got one.

With the increase in light truck/heavy truck sales year over year, I wouldn't have expected a 20% downturn in Transit sales. Fiestas and small vehicles are completely expected with low gas prices, which is why Ford is moving their production to Mexico. Hopefully just an anomaly.

Just bought a midroof a month ago. The dealer had over a dozen to choose from and they put the dates right on their stock number tags. Lots of old stock 4-8 months old. So this report is not a shock to me.

I thought it might have just been my area or that dealer. Got it for what I think was a great deal so bad for the economy but good for me?

In helping people locate Transits all over the country, I find a lot of NEW 2016 models that were built in Nov-Dec 2015 still on the dealer lots. So I think a lot of dealers loaded up on Transit inventory early in the model year thinking about brisk sales and some have not moved very well.

I don't know the stats, but typically people get a new passenger vehicle every 2-3 years. Perhaps the work truck turn-around is longer, and as I suggested Transit buyers only started buying in 2015.

A local dealer has a new LR 3.7 that had been marked down $8,000...

Looked at their inventory a few days ago and now it is $6500 off!
Gotta mark it up before you can "mark it down" for the big sale at Christmas time...!

(What, me cynical? >:D )

The 2016 dual-slider nearly-fully-loaded van I had first ordered (then canceled due to the dealer and salesman being brain-dead nitwits) is still sitting on the lot. Moves around a bit but that's it. My boss and I have thought about giving them a low-ball offer on it for a new company van... :D

Heck, I wouldn't be surprised to find one or two of the *2015* models I test-drove are still sitting there... They hide them out back, not like anyone would really notice them...

The dealer got billed on that Transit 4/29/16; built on 5/11 and probably had it on the lot since June. You know when they got it as they called you, so it has been at least 5+ months.

They show it online for $37,196 so you might try and get it at $35K. After Jan 3rd, there may be another increase in the Ford rebate and more off the price. I would make them the low ball offer and see what they say. Then if they don't go for it, wait after Jan 3rd.

I would like to share my experience with purchasing a 2016 mid roof 15 passenger van with diesel engine. The window sticker price on the van was over $49k. I live in Sacramento, but I found a good price for the diesel van all the way in Virginia, where they were willing to sell the van to me for a little over $45k out the door. I found a similar van in LA, about 450 miles from home and sent the dealer the quote I've got from the dealer in Virginia. The dealer was willing to match and even beat the price of the other dealer. In addition to that, I didn't have to pay additional $1,500 to for the shipping. At the end I paid under $45k out the door for my van. According to my calculations I've got it about $10k below the retail price.

My van had a sticker of $34,500 and I paid $25,700 out the door. It pays to shop around.

Additional costs because it was away from home:
$150 one way plane ticket
$300 fuel to drive home
$200 misc supplies to camp/eat all the way home
(some items are for permanent use; campstove, utensils, cooler, couch-bed and bedding)
Call it $700 in expenses over buying it near home. Still saved more than five thousand over California prices.

The cooling specifications for 2015 show only one size radiator used for all engines.

The Ford tow package includes a "tow/haul" button. I have found the tow/haul button to be very useful even when not towing. At top of a hill press the button and the gearbox will automatically downshift to attempt to maintain the same speed that you were at when you were at the top of the hill.

If you want the trailer brake controller I am pretty sure you have to change out the Information Center screen and maybe something else.

I am planning on buying used and most of what I have seen don't have the hitch and brake controller.

If your trailer doesn't have brakes it will be a breeze to wire it up.

On my Super Duty, tow/haul does much more than manually shifting. It changes the engine tune for shift points, etc in the computer and locks up the torque converter on deceleration giving much better performance and braking, etc.
