Transit Diesel Nightmare

Hello and thanks in advance for the help. 2015 Transit 250 diesel, no problems until 12k miles. Intermittent lack of power with a check engine light appearing several miles later. Brought to dealer, they replicated the issue, but were reluctant to diagnose it right away. They cleared the codes and told me to drive it until it happened again. Light was back on in 10 miles. Brought back to dealer and told them to take their time as we were going on vacation for a week. They called me to say it needs a def pump and tank, and that they checked the def fluid and it passed. All under warranty of course. THEN, they call back and tell me they found diesel fuel in the def tank. NOT under warranty anymore. At this point I am spitting nails. $2500 they said. I have personally filled the def tank once, thousands of miles ago. No one else drives the van. NOBODY. Of course they assure me it wasn't their doing. My only option now is figure out where I purchased the def and investigate its purity. Not only worried about the $2500 now, but what about down the road when something else happens that could be tied to this, and it also won't be warrantied. Super frustrated and looking for advice.

Are they suggesting you accidentally put diesel in the DEF tank?

I don't really want to believe any of the possible scenarios. We are still out of town, so I haven't seen the diesel fuel in it for my own eyes. I don't know if these vans come from the factory full of DEF or if the dealerships do it. But, if there is diesel fuel in the def tank, it came from the dealership or the dispenser of DEF when I filled it awhile back. I know, both scenarios seem unlikely.

So yes, the dealership says that there is definitely with 100% certainty diesel fuel in my DEF tank. They said they didn't do it. So draw your own conclusions as to who they do think put it in there.

Not drawing conclusions, I hate DEF tanks.

How could they say they checked the DEF fluid and it "passed" but then find diesel fuel in the DEF tank? It should have been obvious upon first exam as DEF is clear and mostly water. Is it possible there could be a tank failure inside the tank? I do not know if the tanks for diesel and Def share a common wall or are separated. If they really looked at the DEF and said it passed on the initial report what criteria did they use to Pass it? Something is wrong with this picture . I hope for some clarity from the dealer.

Sorry if this reply is a duplicate. They told me that the first test was at the "nozzle", then eventually Ford Motor Company told them that they needed to test the contents of the tank. That's when they claim they found it was substantially diesel.

Curious did you fill it from a jug you bought or at a dispensing station? Personally I will only use a jug that I look at and into first- DEF is too new at stations for me to trust them.

BTW the DEF tank filler port is too small to get an auto diesel or truck size fuel nozzle in it...

RalSteve- the tanks are completely separate.

Filled at a station pump. I will try to track down receipt to see which station it was.

Was the DEF fill up recent or just prior to the onset of the problems?
