150 vs 250?

Today I drove both the 150 and the 250 (medium length, medium height) and the only difference according to the salesman is that the 250 has beefier rear springs. The 150 rode MUCH better, so why would I pay an extra $1000 to get a paltry 400 more pounds of carrying capacity, while coupled with a bumpier ride?

Just curious. I carry a good deal of weight in tools/materials as a carpenter, but seldom come close to maxing out my '05 Sprinter.

If you don't need the increase in GVWR or payload the only reason I can think of is greater potential resale opportunity? But if you're currently in a ten year old Sprinter probably resale isn't a big concern. Guessing in your case you would just be wasting money for a bumpier ride.

When I was looking at the Transits, I found the following things w/ the 150, 250, & standard 350:
a) all used the same wheels 7 tires
b) all had the same brakes
c) all had the same front suspension
d) all had one leaf spring in the rear (some say the steel may be different between the models)

My old T1N 1 ton Sprinter had bigger wheels, tires, springs & brakes than a 3/4 ton.

Maybe Ford found it to be more profitable for them to minimize the number of global parts bins and engineer most of the Transit to meet the standards of the higher GVW builds whenever possible.

I'm surprised there is only one leaf on the 350, the 350HD has 3 leaf springs in the rear.
Of course the 350HD also has different tires and wheels.

I've often wondered if the "frame" steel is the same...on my 96 F350 the frame looks identical to a F250 frame but it actually is thicker steel.

"Beluga" 2015 350HD 3.2D, 3.73, EL, HR.
