Passenger Seat Removal

Has anyone removed the passenger seat from their Transit? If so any problems with the seatbelt warning light or airbag. My passenger seat has an airbag tag sewn into the fabric. Is there an airbag in the side of the seat?

I removed the passenger seat (took the seat and base out as one unit. Could not break the bolts loose joining the seat and base.).

I also have the airbag seats. The airbag symbol on the instrument cluster is illuminated but there's no buzzer or other nag item. I've got mine in for its 30,000 mile check-up and I've asked if it can be turned off. The service manager didn't think so but he's going to check.

I haven't had a chance to check but I think I might be able to fool the computer if I put the correct resister in the connector to simulate the airbag circuit. Or I might trigger the driver seat ejection charge. [emoji33]

Thank you Uncle Bob. I hope to be back on the road in a couple of weeks. Have you been keeping busy?

I removed the passenger seat yesterday. I left the base which will be perfect for mounting my cabinet. The airbag warning light stays lit even though I turned off the passenger airbag.

I know this is an old thread, but I wish I had seen an answer to the question above before I bought my Transit. I was planning to remove the front passenger seat so my wife could park her wheelchair there. Unfortunately, I bought the passenger Transit with rear heat and air and Ford put the heater coil and fan for the rear heat under the passenger seat. I guess I won't be removing or relocating that. :( So, if you are thinking of buying a passenger wagon and removing the front passenger seat you've got more to worry about than the airbag in the seat. You might want to consider a cargo van.

I believe all Transits have side airbags in the front seats.

In the past I've read that the system is disabled when the light is illuminated. Just pulled up the Owner's Guide and can't find anything about that, other than to have the system checked if the light comes on. I'd seek some kind of clarification before running this way for extended periods of time, it might be a safety concern if your airbag system was deactivated over a missing seat.

I am attempting to remove the front passenger seat from my 2016 RWB, MR Wagon so I can travel with my kayak inside the van, but there is a black cable connecting the seat base and the seat. I have the two-way passenger manual seat with the 10-way power driver seat. Would anyone know what this cable provides power to, and how to I disconnect it? In the photos (hopefully I succeeded in attaching them), the cable comes up from the front left corner of the seat base.

What are you using as a covering around the window area on the window vans. From the factory they come as bare metal around the windows. Working with Penda on some of their wall coverings, I had suggested to them about making wall panels for the window vans. Hard to find one in dealer inventory to use a a template to design the panels. Curious what you might be using for your installations.

Normally, we don't. They're ABS and VERY large and bulky. We pick them up with a 45' flatbed trailer. They ship in 25qty on pallets roughly the size of a 148 Transit. Shipping one or two together, they wouldn't have the rigidity to keep them from breaking or getting damaged, and a complete kit is 12 pieces. I would bet shipping LTL they'd arrive in 24 pieces...haha.

Yes, I removed mine and then I bought an airbag simulator that plugs into the connector under the seat platform
That will shut off the dash airbag warning light

I got the part here and it was $20+
