Question Ideal Carport for Medium Roof

I am trying to build a carport in my driveway.

Most of those car canopies are just way too ugly...

I saw this one product called Palram Vitoria Carport

http://www.amazon.com/Palram-Vitoria-Carport-Patio-Cover/dp/B00ID8I436 http://www.amazon.com/Palram-Vitoria-Carport-Patio-Cover/dp/B00ID8I436

16x10x8' at $1,999 Obviously too small....

Anyone knows where I can get similar model for our beloved Transit?

Mine is regular length with medium roof height. Roughly 8'.12'x18'.25"x8'4"

I like the look of that unit, as well. I had seen it in my own searching. I suppose you could make the wider one taller... either by making or commissioning leg extenders, or by pouring elevated footers (using tubular concrete forms available at Lowe's). But, 16 feet is pretty short. I'd like a foot or two of extra length at each end.

MY problem is that I'm out of room for a legal-permitted permanent structure. I've looked at the temporary, cloth covered structures, which I could get away with. They're all ugly. Now, I'm thinking of designing my own steel structure (I am a backyard welder), with a bit of arch to the roof, like the carport you've shown, but covering it with a custom made, high quality polyvinyl tarp. It would come out looking pretty good, and still be a "temporary" structure.

We had some strong storms in Dallas in May (80+ mph winds). I can't count the number of carports that were destroyed by high winds. These were mainly at apartments and car dealerships. Something to consider.

You could check with vendor to see all options:

Yup!

That's the model linked on top. Still too small (length wise) even if I raise it 1'...

No other options you guys found yet?

A possibility is to contact the vendor and explain the need for this amazing new vehicle. Maybe they will address the need with a new product like an Acadia 6000.

My only issue with the ShelterLogic ones is that unless you anchor the poles somehow, a strong wind will turn it into a post-modern art sculpture. I have seen YouTube vids of people getting around this by bolting the anchors onto 2x6 boards, and anchoring those boards to the ground somehow (if the canopy is going to be on cement or asphalt, cement anchors come to mind.)
