Adding 12v power and USB port to console.

I just got a 2015 Ford Transit Connect XLT Cargo (long wheel base) for work and it has a place for a 12v power on the back of the console but there is currently a blank plug in its place. Also my TC only has an audio in (3.5 mm) inside of the console.
In previous vehicles I have found that wiring harnesses are in place for items that weren't sold on the vehicle and I'm curious is this could be the case here as well? I currently have one 12v power on the front of the console and one in the passenger side rear.
My work involves approx 1000 to 1600 miles of driving a week and I've come accustom to having a GPS, Sirius receiver, and computer up front with me. My previous vehicle allowed me to plug up my phone via USB for audiobooks/music.
I know there is a higher end receiver (My Touch?) than what my TC has, but figured if anyone could answer these questions it would likely be all of you.
This vehicle is going to be a big change for me, but I'm hoping I can make it more suited to the luxuries I've grown accustomed to.

Arrow Another Transit Connect post

grayshirt,

You might want to switch over to the Transit Connect sight & forum. Somehow you have posted on the Transit forum. They are 2 completely different vehicles. Those on this forum will not be able to appreciate your work on your Transit Connect or help you with how to accomplish what you want, as I said they are 2 completely different models of vehicles. Ford just stupidly gave them similar names. Below is the link to the Transit Connect Forum. (scroll down on the page) Good luck with your vehicle.

Just to clarify, you did post in the correct sub-forum (*) here for the Transit Connect ("TC"), but due to the predominantly (full size) Transit focus of this entire site, this sub-forum sees little action. I just checked the site that USMC Vet suggested, and it looks pretty slow also. Check the dates in the right column there for the time stamp of the last post in a thread . . . Pretty slow.

I would suggest continuing to post here, and checking the names of posters in other TC threads:

http://www.fordtransitusaforum.com/f...al-discussion/

You can send a private message (PM) to other TC posters to see if you can increase the participation here IMO.

(*) PS look at the top to see the name of this sub-forum in the middle of the grey text with the ">" symbols: "Ford Transit Connect General Discussion."

PeterR,

You are right, he can post anywhere, but I have to believe there is a reason this site is called the Ford Transit USA Forum, and the other one is called the Transit Connect Forum? Started in 2008.

Don't know why you would advocate for posting here, where almost the entire membership would have no interest in them and would find it confusing trying to figure out if they are reading something about a Transit or a Connect.

I have to believe different sights were set up for a reason.

The thread you refer to must have been started because of the confusion of Ford's naming 2 different vehicles with a similar name.

I for one, if I was interested in Connects, would go to a sight devoted to them rather than here. That would also be a good way for them to get the TC sight more active, by posting there.

May be Aristo or others in admin can move that thread to the other sight and end the posting confusion?

Just as an FYI. The site is private and not setup by Ford Motor Corp.

USMC Vet, in general these forums are all privately owned Internet sites set up to make money for someone, in my personal opinion. Each site is broader than you seem to think, and covers many issues. For instance, use the following link to see one of the home pages for here:

http://www.fordtransitusaforum.com/u...ransit-forums/

See the headings for Transit General Discussion, followed by the Transit Connect General Discussion? They look pretty equal in importance, don't they? It just happens that the Transit discussion got more popular over the last few years, so it is full of sub-forums and threads.

When you click on the Transit Connect link, the number of topics and posts under each is not so large:

http://www.fordtransitusaforum.com/f...al-discussion/

Now check out the dates in the right column for the last post day and time. Hardly any in 2015 at all.

Now go to the blue oval forum main home page:

http://www.blueovalforums.com/forums/

See all the topics covered?

The Transit Connect sub-forum which you linked to is only a needle in the haystack of a much larger multi-topic site. In fact it is even hard to dig down and find that sub-forum when you start at the main home page above, at least I can't find it easily!

Sooooooo -- neither the TC sub-forum here, nor the one at blue oval forums, can really claim to be "THE" Transit Connect forum. It is all a crap-shoot as to which becomes popular on the Internet, a really random process. And none is sponsored by Ford that I know of.

Anyway, I think the original poster should post wherever he has a chance of getting his answer. You know, like putting a classified ad in more than one paper when you are looking for results.

Similar to you re-posting in one thread parts needed etc. in one location, instead of in so many separate posts?

Hard to put into words, but I think that there is probably an even better forum SOMEPLACE for the Transit Connect! Try these search results for starters:

https://search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?...&hsimp=yhs-001

Here is a likely candidate IMO:

http://fordtransitconnectforum.com/

The dates in the right column suggest this is a more active forum IMO than here or blue oval.

Good luck!

PeterR,

Until driley informed me earlier, I thought this was a Ford sight, my bad.

There is a lot of information being collected and passed here, and no wonder there has been no response to the problems, by Ford. Maybe we all should go over to the (what appears to be a ) Ford sight instead of letting the operators of this sight collect and sell our information.

To me this looks like it might be a Ford sight, or am I mistaken again?

When the website is filled with advertisements from other companies, you can bet it's not being run by Ford
