For those wondering about exhaust upgrades

I have seen several inquiries about different exhausts and fixing the bottom dump exhaust on the cargo Vans.

I have searched the internet and noticed how much power people were able to gain on the 3.5 Eco boost in the pickups by simply letting them breath with a larger more free flowing exhaust yet nobody makes a system for the Transit.

So I'd been meaning to go get an elbow put in so I don't have to worry about the carbon monoxide hazard and while I was there we put it up on he hoist and I asked about building a full 3" exhaust from the Catalytic Back. I was interested in losing the very restrictive muffler for and more free flowing one , scrapping the resonator and making a nice side exit tailpipe with a nice 3" stainless tip on it and they were receptive to the idea.

Well I'm happy to say it sounds phenomenal , has a nice tone to it , I no longer need to worry about idling the van while I'm inside it and it feels like the performance gains are there too.

I'll get some video tomorrow of the sound but for tonight at least a teaser picture of the business end of today's venture.

I was wondering how safe it is to sleep in my transit with the stock exhaust dumping where it is?

Now tune it and take it to the drag strip!

RIP Lemmy. Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most.

Will be trying the drag strip run in June when attending the MidAmerica Ford & Team Shelby event in Tulsa, OK on June 18th at Tulsa Raceway Park. May even try to get a Ford Transit Challenge going to see what times these vehicles can make in the quarter mile.

My friend just installed a new dyno test machine and hoping to get a test run before going to Tulsa. Curious what horsepower it would make and what time if would do in the 1/4 mile run.

Hopefully not too loud. There are two vehicles in our neighborhood where we get an automatic daily log of their movements every day.

Haulin' Gas Adventures... looks great. Look forward to seeing some pic's of the underneath side. I would like to do something similar seeing as how I just my my floor vent in the other day and the thought of pulling exhaust into the van is definitely a concern. Can you give us an idea of how much it cost to do? I would like to move this project up to the top of my list very soon. Also, did you go to a specialty shop or just to a muffler shop?

The shop I went to has done lots of other exhaust work for me over the years and would be the go to shop locally for the hot rod type community. It's your basic muffler shop otherwise and anyone with the ability to bend pipe up to 3" diameter could do this quite easily.

The whole thing was done for about $550 and the quote I got for the 90° elbow alone was $100 so it made sense to just do it all now.

I'll get you some underside shots and a sound clip soon.

If the exhaust was in a bad place it wouldn't be where it is. There's no need to lengthen it.

I would, however, like to hear a nice flow master muffler on mine and some more turbo whine.
