2016 Transit 150 base throttle body FAILURE 6800 miles

Driving on the freeway and van stalls at 70 mph.

I coast to a stop and tell tales are all lit up on cluster.

I am pretty pissed off at this point have a failure this soon into ownership.

I restart and drive home within 2 miles.

I call the dealer to set up an appointment.

I start the van an hour later to find the same failure within 5 minutes of operating.

The dealer tells me the throttle bodies are high failures on 2016's including Fusions and similar MK models.

Dealer states that the throttle bodies are back ordered everywhere.

1. Seems super dangerous that this is a common issue per the dealer.

2. If this is true then why haven't read about it here?

Why did I buy a Ford?

1. Sudden loss of power is certainly something that can cause issues. Not sure I would say it's "super dangerous" but may well end up as a recall if that widespread.

2. There is a post.... not two posts down currently (here), in this very forum of a user having issues as well. It may also be that the issue is just now starting to emerge. Your just the lucky early winner.

Do you really think no other manufacturer experiences issues with designs or manufacturing that affect vehicles? Do a Google search for vehicle recalls and select the news tab.

20-APR-2016 - Order placed with Dealer
13-JUL-2016 - Drove it off the dealer lot!

I have owned over 40 cars.

When a service advisor tells you that they are replacing 3 to 4 a day and there is a backlog of parts there is a problem. When a service advisor tells you about the many air filter issues on these Transits with no service bulletins there is a problem.

With those 40+ cars, I've had 2 issues.

Lotus Exige would not rev past 6000 RPM. (air filter not connected properly)

VW GTI (windows fell off track into doors) Recall

Its actually VERY dangerous to have a car stall while driving. Think about stalling in an intersection with kids in the car? Safe?

Is this a throttle position sensor failure, or something else?

Haha!...big laugh with that one!

I agree that having the van tank on ya is a real problem...heck, you need to strategically plan a right turn a mile in advance these days. Everybody zipping around like maniacs.

I can't tell from your post...was this determined to be the problem?

Also, the standard for issues (to me) has been set by Jonsobi...anything less than that is gravy. It is annoying, though. Let us know what it was and how long it took to get you back on the road.

I'd put a TRUMP bumper sticker on it, but I'm quite certain it would be vandalized.

It was indeed the throttle body. Took 3 days for the part to come as they back ordered.

Dealer said that they are replacing 3 to 4 a day. Enterprise, Midway, and Warner Bros have been having issues with fleets as well.

Might end up as a recall I was told at Galpin Studio Rentals.

What the heck goes wrong with a throttle body? I could understand a sensor going bad, but a throttle body?
