Rear Door Speaker Installation

Hey there, I've got a 2017 Ford Transit 250 that came with the basic stock radio (only front speakers).

I wanted to add speakers to the rear doors so I purchased some aftermarket ones. When I took the panels off the rear doors I was really surprised to see that only one of them seems to have any wiring in it! The other is completely bare. See pics below.

Has anyone else run across this or did they not finish something on my van?
If this is normal, did they run the driver side speaker wire at all, or will I need to route it down the entire van?

Cheers!

Interesting. I will watch your build on this, if you don't mind.

Yeah of course! As a slight aside to my own topic I have another general question that more people might be able to help with...

Where can I find a plastic seal for the door like the one on my passenger side? Once routing wires in there I'd like to add one to the driver's side.

I wouldn't worry about the plastic seal. I kind of laugh about the ones that are in place in my cargo van. Look at all of the the slots and holes all over the frame of that door... they all go to the same place, so, dust and moisture can get in. And, I have no inclination to put tabs of clear tape over all of those penetrations.

the plastic film is on the passengerside only to protect the backup camera electronics i would guess, (mine has the same film on that door only too) others in the past have noted that the speaker wires end at a plug near the front driverside door for those who do not have rear speakers, i do not know where this plug is? search the speaker install threads on the forum. also you need a door adapter since the door hole is too big, others have reported that aftermarket adapters work

Thanks Michael. Doing some searching around these forums and found this thread with useful info. I wanted to link it here in case people stumble across my thread first.

EDIT: It won't let me post a URL yet since my post count is low. Sigh. It's thread 37033

yep it is cool to put the idea out there, it is not a very common subject and people may have new ideas from the last time it was asked.

the tread count thing is new, a few months back the forum got hit with spammers. i think you need 10 posts in order to link things or share pictures.

thread 37033: yeah ok, the thread where i was a little confused as that the question actually was! (i will post it for you)

Yeah, the post count isn't a bad idea. I've run a number of different forums over the years and it's a pain in ass to deal with!

The wire in the right door is for the tag light.

You'll have to run your own wires. But I it's so far back there it's probably less effective than just upgrading your front speakers with an amplifier or adding tweeters to what's existing.

I don't think the base radio even has rear speaker outputs. Mine doesn't have a fade option in the settings.

The rear speakers are WAY back there, too. Hardly a good formula for good sound.
