Aftermarket Radio Problem

Greetings!

I just joined because of a problem with the aftermarket radio installation I did on my 2010 Transit. I have some questions... the problem isn't major, but it irritates me, because I haven't found a solution as yet.

Everything works, EXCEPT the AM band of the radio; extremely weak signal. FM band is pretty decent.

The stock whip is very short. Does the Transit Connect use an amplified antenna to make up for the lack of length?

I suspect it does; an ohm meter check between the antenna itself and the cable to the radio shows no continutity, as you would normally get if there were just a feedline. It would show no continuity if there's an amplifier in the line.

In that case, the problem is probably no power to said amplifier.

How do I power it up, and get good old WSM in Nashville cookin' again during late night truckin' sessions??? Does it take 12 VDC up the antenna cable, provided by the radio (which mine probably doesn't provide)???

The radio is good on AM; I bought two of them, and added the other one to my 2009 Ranger (a truck without all of the bells & whistles of the Transit). Swap 'em and the problem stays with the Transit.

This silly problem is driving me bonkers; it hits me right in the ego... I just retired after 30+ years as a BROADCAST ENGINEER, and even tho I can keep an FM transmitter site happily humming along, modern automotive electronic systems make NO sense to me whatever! :s

Thanks!

Hanover,

Unfortunately you have posted a request regarding a Transit Connect, on the wrong forum. This forum is as the title states, Ford Transit USA, not the Transit connect. They are two completely different vehicles, well not completely I guess, they are both made by Ford.

I've included a link, below, of other owners seeking / offering information regarding TC's.

Good Luck.
