Manual Sync 3 v2.2 Update

Folks,

For those who just can't wait any longer, you can now manually update your 2016 Sync3 systems to version 2.2 which should add Apple CarPlay (still need the adapter) and Android Auto.

I came across the release (and basic instructions) here: http://www.2gfusions.net/showthread....881&pid=100870

In the linked post are two download links, the Transit would use the 'Navigation Equipped' link (as I believe Sync3 was only available with Navigation on the Transit). This is a universal update and has supposedly been confirmed to work on quite a few Sync3 equipped vehicles. I did the update to my Transit last night this is what my 'About' screen shows now:

A couple of notes:
- If you are concerned about the source of the update file, it IS coming from a Ford server (ivsu.binaries.ford.com)
- Took about 20 minutes to install on my Transit.
- The update MAY NOT take affect until the vehicle has been shut down for 30+ minutes. After I initially did the update, I got a confirmation screen it was completed and would not take affect until the vehicle was restarted. I shut down, opened the door, closed the door, locked the doors, then reversed, but was still showing v1.0. It is now showing v2.2 after sitting overnight. I am guessing the devices need to see a full power cycle (the whole 30 minute thing with Transits) before they consider the vehicle has having restarted.
- Since the Transit is my wife's daily driver I have not yet verified Android Auto capability (and I don't own iOS device so won't ever be able to do CarPlay) but plan to upon getting home this afternoon. Will update when I can.
- As always... this is at your own risk.

It works. I did it about a month ago. Android Auto works well, especially the navigation with traffic and the voice recognition and destination searching is far superior. Can send text messages via the voice interface as well. On the sync3 navigation the speed limit shows up larger and more clearly which is nice.

Any Ford Parts experts want to figure out what part number we are going to need to update the USB interface to work with Apple Carplay? I did a search on https://www.fordpartsgiant.com but came up empty.

Did you get any on screen verification that the software update was running? I've loaded the files onto an appropriate USB drive and have plugged it into the Transit, but I'm not seeing anything happening?

As soon as I plugged in the USB drive, the top black bar changed to 'Updating Software' or something to that effect.

Interesting mine is doing nothing. And I am tech savvy enough to have made sure that I formatted the drive correctly. I was already on Sync 2.0 though, not 1, so perhaps it won't update from 2.0 to 2.2 with this method?
