Rear speaker harness wiring

If your rig did not come with rear speakers, the BEMM leads me to believe that there is an inline connector somewhere (p97) which allows you to tap into the inline harness to connect to the HU connector. Does this sound right? If so, do you have any idea where this inline harness could be?

Thanks.

When I put in my aftermarket double DIN radio, there were no wires at the radio for rear speakers.

Me neither, but if you look at p.97 of the BEMM there is some implication in my mind that there is a upstream inline connection from the 24 pin to wire into the rear speaker wires on the 24 pin harness. That would be really convenient if there were. I'm wiring in my unit this week.

a quick search box search brought up this, which is correct according to my notes, but others have said in other threads that the colors change at a harness plug between the front and the back. the fourth post down matches my notes at the rears speakers themselves: Radio wiring colors

Yes, but what if your vehicle wasn't wired for rear speakers? Mine wasn't. Nothing is in my rear doors. t think there's an inline connector upstream of the 24 pin connector somewhere under the dash (at least that's what the BEMM leads me to believe). I'm asking if this is the case and where is it. If you guys dunno, I'll check under my dash when I have it apart again this week. At least I'll be able to see if there's wires going to the 24 pin. If there ain't, I guess there's no inline connector either.

if i read this thread right? you need the CD radio prep package that comes with the harness for 6 speakers. lots of talk about plugs but i am not sure if they are the plug you are looking for, or if that plug is even there without the CD prep package? Radio Prep Package - Stereo Install

Sorry, maybe I misunderstood. For clarity, are you saying there are no wires going into the 24 pin connector for the rear speakers? If that's the case, then I'm out of luck. If there are, it'll save me an extra connector. I'll look at it this week.

swellguy... Did you find anything? I have a 2016 cargo van with the basic radio, only (2) front speakers. I installed a new double din radio today. The existing wiring harness did have the wires there for rear speakers. I checked the rear door panel, no wiring. I assume there is a connector somewhere to pick up for rear speakers. If you found it, please let me know.

I have a 2017 Transit 250 Cargo Van with the cargo van vinyl wall and floor covering I just installed rear speaker in. Unfortunately with the walls covered it was difficult to find where the wiring for the rear speakers was. The van came with the base radio with four front speakers (two in door and two tweeters in front window posts). There were rear speaker wires in the radio harness so I kept my fingers crossed that there were wires in the rear.
There were no signs of any speaker wires in the rear doors that appeared to have openings and grills for speakers. I did find the RR speaker wires ending behind the square hole plug on the rear door frame. The wires stopped at the inline connector located there. One side of the connector had the speaker wires in it and the other side that led to the door pigtail did not have wires in it leading me to believe a different harness for the back door would be used if your van came with rear speakers.
Now the other side did not make any sense. I used a telco tone generator to send a tone signal through the wiring from the radio connector with an inductive amplifier to trace the wires. It seemed to indicate the speaker wire was in the other side of the door frame but there was no continuity to the connector there. After a few hours of trying to figure it out I went to Home Depot and bought some jacketed 16-2 wire and I attempted to follow the factory harness down the driver side window post. What a mistake. That whole area is filled up with the side air bag. Back to plan A before things went wrong. I then removed the side panel above the left rear wheel where I found the connector for the left rear speaker. What a relief!
As stated in a different post in this forum, the color code of one the wires on each side does change between the radio harness and the rear connector. The color codes in the earlier post are correct.
I ended up installing Hertz 6x9 triax speaker in the side panels that sound great. What is interesting is it appears there are openings in the side body that appear to be for large woofers and tweeters in front of the rear wheels that can be seen in my pics.
