Left blinker 2 x normal, no lines on backup camera

OK, it's happened again. Left blinker blinks twice as fast as it should, though all bulbs are working. Colored lines - all of them - have disappeared from the backup camera.

The van had this problem briefly on my second day of ownership, but it cleared up by itself. Not this time, though.

The problem has been reported elsewhere on the forum, and I asked then for a diagnosis, but the poster did not respond.

Obviously it's a warranty job at the dealership, but I'd like to know what the cause is. My guess is one of the Transit's wonder-modules, like the body control model that busted and took out the TPMS and the remote locking capability ....

Anyone know the answer?

Took mine to dealer for this problem but they wouldn't work on it because I had LED tail lights and backup lights in. I put the factory backup bulbs back in and that didn't help at first but left them in and after about a week or two the lines started working again. So I put the LEDs back in and for a week now the lines still work, we will see if they malfunction again. Do you have factory lights??

Yes, I do ....

For what it's worth

I had similar malfunctions on my van shortly after purchasing. The right hand blinker would do the same as yours, the back up sensors would just stop working and sometimes the van would arm the alarm with me sitting in it with the keys not in the ignition.

I'm not an electrical guy, but I do know that every single electrical signal is routed or read by the vans computer systems. When something has a glitch, like a bad connection or one of the sensors is acting up, weird things start to happen.

I lost the Nox 12 sensor and that triggered the check engine light. I was still able to drive the van without going into limp mode.

Long story short... after it was replaced all of those strange electrical gremlins disappeared.

I now take those strange faults as a warning that somethings is going to fail sometime in the near future. I might get lucky and my scanner might be able to see what's going on.

For what it's worth...

ejbleen,

Have you tapped into the trailer wiring, either at the plugs or the actual wiring? Doing so will turn off the screen lines (page 146 OM )
If you have, it might have overloaded the OEM flasher for the left turn signal causing it to flash faster, at least that is what would happen in the old days (we would replace with larger flasher back then) don't know with the modern electronics.

Hope you solve it.

Nope, no messing with the trailer wiring ....

It looks as though this isn't a very common issue, and that make me nervous about any effective response when I go to the dealership ....

It does sound like an issue with the trailer wiring or control module for trailering. After the first time I hooked up my trailer to test the function of lights and the rest of the system, I also had one turn signal blink faster. It cleared up by itself but I definitely related it to having detected the trailer hookup.

Well, it's too late now. Today - approximately a day after the first symptoms, and without any warning - everything started working again.

I suppose I should look on the bright side. The first time this happened, it took an hour or so to self-heal. This time it took a day or so. Hopefully, next time it's stay busted long enough to get it to the dealer.

I think you guys who suggest the trailer module are on to something. I was scratching my head to figure out the link between the blinkers and the backup camera, but that module would be an obvious candidate ....

EJB.

Good news this time!

Now, I'm not even rated high enough to be considered a flunky, in automotive issues, but was thinking that just possibly, is there any chance it could be an intermittent short in the trailer wiring? That would turn the lines off if there was any draw on the power (?)

Hopefully some of the more experience members will weigh in and blow me out of the water and give you a better reason and a way to test for it. :D

Code P040D

About a week after I posted on this thread about malfunctions with my rear parking sensors, the right hand turn signal and the alarm weirdness, they all started happening again.

I also noticed that I burned thru half a tank of DEF 2 weeks earlier than is normal for me and I wasn't getting that nice satisfying surge of power when I put the pedal down.

I been plugging in my scanner every other day to see if it could find a pending problem. No luck.

So today, just as I was finishing up, the engine light came on. Thankfully it did not start blinking.

I plugged in my scanner and the P040D code lit up. EGR Temp Sensor.

From what I've read on other forums, I should still be able to drive to the dealer, but I cannot use it for work. Could be down for a while if the part is not available.

2 sensors in less than a month with less than 35000 miles= Not a happy camper.

Regardless... Enjoy your 4th of July!

This problem has been consistent since it started over a week ago. I decided to take it by the shop today to get checked out. I parked the van, and when we started it back up it went away. No blinker issue, no trailer attached message. Decided not to leave it since I didn't have an appointment. The service guy said he's not seen this issue yet.

FYI..... I have had the same thing... comes and goes...... Took to the dealership and when turned it back on it was fine.

Only correlation I found was that the Parking sensor ON/OFF button on the left side of the instrument cluster would not turn it off and or on. The switch should light up with the off illuminated when turned off. Many times I push it and stays on or off and the light never illuminates.

I will be going through the wiring for the switch and trace it back to the main system and check fuses etc.

Let you know if I find more info!

Anyone else find the same correlation?

Cheers

Did you happen to go over a big bump and then they worked again? Might be a loose connection.

Add me to the list of folks with this issue. I've got a fast right blinker and get the message about rear parking aids being disabled due to a trailer being plugged in.

All three blinker bulbs check out (front, mirror, and rear) and are the original OEM bulbs. I did tow an open top U-Haul trailer about 2 weeks ago but had no incidents during towing and no symptoms immediately afterwards (about 10 days between towing and the issue showing up).

Two days ago my left blinker started flashing fast. No lines on backup camera. When I start van and shift into reverse the parking sensor switch is off and when I push switch to turn it on I get a message that trailer is hooked up. Hit the brake controller and message changes to no trailer. Anyone had dealer find what is causing this issue?

My 2016 t350 long wheelbase, mid roof has had this issue twice.
The first time it resolved itself in a couple of days.
This last Saturday i closed the back doors, not a slam but not a nice gentle hand push, and the fast blink started.
I read this this am and took. The rear brake light housing of while the right directional was fast blinking.
Inspected and removed the bulbs and re installed, no change.
Inspected the connector that connects he housing wring to the vehicle.
The connector runs up and down. I checked how secure and the electrical tape around the top came off, almost seemed burnt.
I blew air into the connector and the blinking slowed to a normal pace.
I did not have time to take it completely apart, i will do that later today, but that seemed to be where the issue is on mine.
I will update what i find.

My van started giving me the "Rear Park Aid Disabled, Trailer Attached" code a few weeks ago. It would come and go. Then today the right blinker started flashing fast. Dealership cannot get me in for another week. Anybody figure out what is going on?

For what it's worth. My 2017 transit 150 left side blinking fast, bulbs all work....was an issue in the trailer hook ups. Mine has a 7 pin and 4 pin. If you look on the 7 pin it gives you a diagram. i.e. left blinker. Right blinker etc. On mine the yellow wire runs the left lights...blinker, break. Those wires jump over to the 4 pin internally to operate left, right, parking lamps (pl) the issue was in that internally. Picked up a whole new trailer plug-in receptacle and fixed the issue. Hope this helps.
