4 inch display and rear view camera

hi -- the van I'm thinking of getting has the 58X audio pkg (SYNC), and a rear-view camera. I assume the 4 inch multi function display is where the rear view camera displays. I've used 6 and 8 inch displays before but 4 inch seems kinda small -- any comments on whether it's good enough for backing up the van in tight places? thanks.

I have the same combo. Though I would like a bigger display, I think the 4 inch is (somewhat maybe perfectly) adequate as the backup camera display. The display its self is not high resolution nor high contrast. I love the backup camera and doubt I would be comfortable backing without it.

Ordered my transit a year ago today, with MFT and loaded out with every upgrad. Six months later was delivered without MFT AND THE DINK DISPLAY. That small screen is worthless with the rear view camera. Walked away from it and waiting for the new SYNC FOR 2016. IMO don't get it.. WORTHLESS $300 camera with that display..

Depends on what you're doing with it. I back up with the mirrors and use the display to tell me when I'm within a inch of the bumper behind me for parking. For that it's fine, but yes, bigger would be better. Going to add a second rear view camera at some point to use as a rearview mirror (no windows).

Same here. I find the small camera is quite good for the last three feet of backing up, but use the side mirrors for the major alignment.
What's lacking for me is what the upper part of my van is doing. I almost crushed the eave of my friends house on day one because I couldn't see the upper area behind me. I'll probably add a second camera as soon as an integrated brake light one becomes available.

Called them (rear view safety) today. Actually talked to a sentient being this time, as opposed to the stalk of broccoli I chatted with when I first contacted them. She said to try back in a month, they should be ready. My concern is whether they will function as a rearview mirror or point down at too low an angle. After my first encounter I didn't want to get into anything more technical than a production date. Baby steps...

My new Wagon has the MyFord Touch larger display with back-up camera. Personally, I find the screen image poor (especially during the daylight), and the location hard to use. Having driven vans most of my life, I also rely on the mirrors for lining things up in reverse, and then use the screen image to locate the bumper relative to parking lines and obstructions in the back.

I got the low roof, but can definitely relate to JP4's comment about not having good eyes on the top of the higher roof lines at the back of the van. Ouch!

thanks everyone, that pretty much confirmed what I thought -- I think the 4" will be 'good enough but has limitations'. I did a search and the threads were among those Peter posted i.e. were talking about aftermarket cameras, not the factory camera that displays on the 4" screen. Unless I missed something.

Anyone have the rear view mirror screen? Small, I'm sure, but useable? Don't care for the dashboard hump needed for the radio upgrade with 4" screen.

Aftermarket visor display seems the best of both worlds.
