Kingcobra33,

From what I learned before, backup cameras aren't designed to be on all the time, they crap out quickly. Get a system that has a real camera designed for that, and run it to an alternate screen. Look at the tadibrother rv systems. Besides, modifying your stock system might void some type of warranty.

Check out this site, they do not support the Transit Van yet. But I'm checking with them monthly:

Remember, some states don't allow viewing screen displays by the driver while driving.

If a cop writes you up for having rear vision, it would have to be as an add-on to the moving violations that seriously made him want to taser you into a blob of jelly.

cargovanconversion,

Not sure about all states, but think it has to do with obstruction out the front or side windows and transmitted images, like video's and tv. Some also have an exception for a device that enhances the drivers view of the surrounding side or rear roadway. I know AZ is that way.

Any of you that have a HR wagon or van, would appreciate a couple of pics of both the inside and outside rear area. Showing the rear window up to the roof. Getting ready to order a camera system for my wagon, want to see where the rear facing camera could be mounted, so it doesn't have to go on top of the wagon. Thanks.

Personally I probably will install side cameras, not as much as to use while driving, I find that to distracting, but to use while parked as an RV.
With regard to the backup camera, in my opinion a high location will give you a better overview and makes hooking up a trailer easier. Again those license plate cameras are prohibited in some states.

Good luck with your wagon!

cargovanconversion,

I'll have the side camera's also, to help with lane changes and viewing what is next to me. Trying to see where I can put the rear camera, though.

The Ford camera has a line that indicates the path your hitch ball is taking. Called hitch assist or something. The camera is mounted at license plate level and provides a view from the bumper to the horizon. Not bad.

A low positioned camera may be good for hooking up a trailer, but depth perception would be very limited, I think. That wouldn't make backing up easier.
When installing mine, I'll be posting my experiences with a top and bottom location. It may be a personal preference, like with so many things.
