Has anyone found a good swivel that will work in the Transit?

I contacted Discount Van and Truck. These fixed and swivel bases are for the full size Transit not the Connect. The representative stated that they make the adapters and are selling them as fast as they can make them.

TESSMAN:...the swivel is of very good quality....
I took a chance and orderd my seats first that I will be replacing....the rail width is different (14" vs. 17") so I will have to modify the swivel to bridge the gap..... and so it goes....

The torx bolts holding down the seats are off the charts tight.....I can't even get them off...will need to have the shop loosen them for me when I switch out the seats....

Which seats did you order? Pictures? I was thinking of the possibility of installing an electric brake (to remove the parking brake [there are special needs retrofit kits out there]). Moving the batteries and electronic unit out from under the drivers seat, basically gutting all the seat components down to the floor and then installing some nice reclining captains chairs with new bases. But I would like to avoid all that mess if possible. It looks like the Euro Murvi conversion solved swiveling both seats somehow. It might be a good idea to talk to them at some point and see if they will part with how they did it.

dtessman,

What you're thinking can be done, but will need to be done by someone qualified with major experience in modifying vehicles. I'm having a push button electronic parking brake installed, but under the existing parking brake (for protection) are the vehicle air bag control modules. Batteries are being relocated to the rear of the vehicle, which means all the electronics etc have to be run there also.

Building on the existing seat platform or a after market swivel, will be the easiest and cheapest way to go.

I did not. I purchased aftermarket seats for more comfort. They have a swivel for aftermarket and Factory.

I was hoping to be able to purchase a swivel adaptor from reisemobilsitz24.de
while in germany the last 3 weeks but they did not had them in stock at that time. I received the below mail today , here the translation :
Hello,
the passenger side seat adaptor is now available and has a lead time of 14 days.
For the Driver Side there is now also a solution available but so far only in combination with a sportscraft seat. The Swivel Set for the driver side includes the swivel adapter with fittings for a Sportscraft Seat. The Seat will then swivel above the hand break.

In a previous mail to me they stated that the crash certificate for the passenger swivel will be available mid year from Sportscraft. So they are using Sportscraft Adapters which should be available here in the US as well.

here the link to their site:

Hallo ,

I've heard rumor that Sportsmobile has designed and prototyped a replacement base for the passenger seat that swivels, currently being tested, with production starting in about 3 months. But I don't know if they will sell the part, or just that it is available as part of their upfit.

Santa says she'll buy me this for X-mas.

Looking at the seat it almost looks like the seat couldn't turn 180° to the rear as it would hit the door ?????

Also what about the seat belt strap--------it's attached to the seat and would be stretched out across the seat.

Are these 2 things not a problem ??????

I know the party is long over with but...

I notice that in your photo of the swivel it is mounted such that the nuts of the bolts holding the halves together are on top. All other photos I've seen posted show the heads of the bolts on top.

I've taken pains to look at any other pictures of the swivel that have been posted because I wasn't sure myself which way it should be. It could be you are the only one who has done it correctly, if there is a "correctly" - but then again...??

I am attempting to install the passenger side swivel. Got torx bolts out. I'm stuck on what do I do about the electrical that goes up to the seat!?? Somebody help! Thanks! Steve

Can you take a picture so we can see what your talking about? Do you have the electric 10 way seat?

What size torx bit is needed to remove the seat?

See the head inside the shadowed U area. That's the long long (like 2 inches) screw which holds the two halves of the connector together. Loosen it and loosen it some more. I had to loosen, pull the halves apart a bit, then loosen some more. Actual thread on screw was only about 1/2-3/4 inch though. There may also be a clip on fat side of case holding it together too, not sure what I saw there (could be merely aligning guide).

If you mean the two pins in the front corners of the base used to align the seat before installing bolts, then YES. I chopped them off enough to clear seat swivel top. Used my hand grinder with cut off blade. Make lots of heat and sparks.

Note, I did not install the commercial seat you are installing, so we may be describing different things. My seat plates are less than 1/2 inch apart (new iteration is 3/8 inch), 7/8 inch (new 3/4) total, so those pins, which I believe were about 3/4 high, had to shrink. Do not cut all the way off as they are still useful in aligning the base.

WAIT. Now I see what you are talking about, the welded U shaped handle of 3/16 rod in back. YES, that got chopped off too. Cargo van does not have pretty vinyl cover on aft steel base you have.

A gratuitous opinion: That commercial swivel raises the seat enough already, and you want to do more? The handle appears to have no practical use, except maybe as a tie down point. No other purpose I can see. However, cutting it off did leave slightly sharp edges which could rust over time if not treated. You could remove pretty plastic cover, cut off U handle, and reinstall cover, and no one will ever know what you did.
