I've a lot of problem to get a sofa bed for my stealth campervan project here in Canada. So I'm trying to make one by myself. I need something safe for my children. This is what I'm thinking about.

Orton, my van is currently parked somewhere at the Kansas Plant, so there is no progress on the build unfortunately! The mountain biking season is going full swing here in Quebec, so i'm trying to make the most of it before i get my van at the end of june and start the conversion.

I will start a post soon. Thanks for the heads up :)

Very talented people on this forum, keep up the good work!

At this time, the plan for the second children bed is supported by 3 latch and a strap.
I think to install a metal trim with some holes on the edge of the cabinet. (see pic 2)
To pull down I use this latch and the strap.

very nice design

This is almost exactly what I want to do too, with my 2015 Transit. Only difference is I want the bed to open into the size of a full/double bed, 54 inches by 75 inches. Do you think your frame design would work with a bed 54" wide, with added stiffeners (perhaps 1.5" x1.5" softwood) glued under the plywood?

Having seating for additional passengers while moving is essential for us--we have a kid!

Pretty sure it could work. But 54 inches must to be installed between the wheels. You won't be able to install any cabinet. Let me know if you want more details.

The "angle of the dangle" needs to be perfect! I always admire work like this.....hats off to the guys who designed my Lay-Z-Boy recliner chair. I'm sure they go through a bunch of trial and error until everything actually works.
