For those unhappy with the Transit's temp gauge and overall lack of information regarding how the engine is operating, what is your add-on of choice? And, what information do you get from your ScanGauge, traditional gauges, et al?
Looking at the options just on Amazon, the choices have become mind-bending. So many different manufacturers, communication over wi-fi or bluetooth. Which software to install on your phone . . .
I'm using DashCommand with a wifi dongle for iOS. You will want wifi communication so you can still use bluetooth for receiving and making phone calls.
It does the job and the setup was less than $30. The engine temp and boost gauges work well. There is a feature to graph the temperature but I can't get it to work right. It also shows instant fuel economy which is nice for hypermiling. I can't get transmission temp to read because they don't have extended parameters support for 2016 models yet. When I emailed the company they said I could try buying the Ford 2014 extended parameters but couldn't guarantee it would work.
Thanks guys. Scan and Ultra gauges are definitely near the top in my research so far. Has anyone tried the Blue Driver/Lemur OBDII monitor? It's $99 but seems to be the cheapest way to read the Ford enhanced OBD codes. It's bluetooth but I don't have the Ford radio head unit with bluetooth.
I'm going with a SCT Livewire tuner. It can basically do everything and the tunes give tons of options for how you want the engine to perform. Truck guys using it on their Ecoboost engines love the added performance and economy.
Had the ScanGauge in my Audi A4, fit in quite well, nice and small with simple information. Liked that I could customize the background color to match my dash.
I have the UltraGauge in my ProMaster. Primarily wanted it for boost pressure and exhaust temps, but have found I like having water temp and voltage on there as well. On the same page I have RPM and % engine load just for the helluvit.
For the price and what you get, Ultragauge is the way to go. No dongle required, no having to make sure a phone is mounted and has power, just go with it.
I do have one problem with it though... the display is not compatible with polarized sunglasses. I've had to mount it tilted sideways quite a bit to not have it black out completely. Looks a bit odd, was a bit tough to read at first, but now I'm used to it.
I just pulled my ScanGauge from my Sprinter. I love it and will stick with it.
