back in the day before computers on very cold day you could use a vehicle 24 volt electrical system to jump off a vehicle with a 12 volt electrical system and it would do no harm to the 12 volt vehicle! Today with a battery charger set on engine boost you are sending almost 18 volts DC, along with the poorly filtered AC from the 120 volt input voltage of the charger into the engine computer, that is enough to scramble anything! i learned this from using a battery charger to jump start modern nissan propane powered forklifts, the only way you can start them with a battery charger is to have it set on a slower charge!
