What is this foam door panel?

Reluctantly at first I removed the foam panels in both doors to have better access inside for installing sound insulation. I could see no good purpose for retaining them so I covered the openings with a piece of Noico on both sides with a piece of MLV layered between.

Still wondering why FORD puts them there?

Note at the top of the frame in the 1st picture you see the one scrap of sound deadening material Ford puts on the inside door panel. It heartens me to see it - it's like Ford is giving a pinkie wave acknowledging, "yes door panel resonance is significant enough we have to at least make a gesture of recognition of the issue. Now leaves us alone - fix it yerself."

I laughed at the small tile too - mine had the same thing on both sides.

Mine did not have the foam, in its place is a one way flapper meant to help with door closure I think. I am hoping if I can pressurize the van with a fan then air will bleed out these and also the rear vents.
