Small Update for those waiting on the 2016 Sync3 Update
Recently my Sync3 system went haywire. I took it down to the dealer and they replaced the APIM, which as I understand it is basically the Sync3 module. When I got it back I had Sync3 2.0 installed. 1.0 is what came with my van. And interestingly there was a new section under settings "Android Auto" I toggled it on and borrowed a buddy's Android phone.
Sure enough as soon as I plugged it in it started the Android Auto Setup.
But a major bummer for those of us with Apple devices, whatever that "hardware update" is that has been noted must not be part of the APIM as my iPhone will still not connect for CarPlay. So I guess there really is something totally separate that has to be installed.
But its interesting to know at least that Ford is shipping new APIMs that support Sync3 2.0 with the ability to do Android Auto.
